Alexandre Tharaud looks behind the mirror

The French star pianist Alexandre Tharaud is known as the ‘poet at the piano’. Every score that he touches changes into poetry. In his recital he transports us to the other side of the mirror, just like Maurice Ravel did in his Miroirs.

Miroirs is a suite of five expressive parts, in which the composer portrays five artist friends who are looking at themselves in the mirror. Claude Debussy’s Préludes are also true masterpieces of impressionist atmosphere creation. The lines are hazy, but the overall picture is always arresting and bewitching. Erik Satie is the third sound magician on the programme. With an idiom that is completely his own and his predilection for the absurd, he always seems to find himself somewhat on the other side of the mirror.

With his broad musical horizon, Tharaud also knits on improvisations on French chansons. A programme of pure piano poetry!
