A musical ode to nature
Fusing music, movement and theatre, EDEN is a breath-taking, through-performed tour de force from the multi-award winning Joyce DiDonato that’s been immediately celebrated as “iconic” and “ground-breaking.” Featuring four centuries of music from Gluck, Handel and Cavalli, to Mahler, Ives and a new commission from Academy-Award winning composer, Rachel Portman, EDEN is a searing declaration of hope, celebrating the majesty, might and mystery of Nature through the connective, transforming power of music.
Joyce is joined by her long-standing musical partners, Il Pomo d’Oro, and conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, and by local youth choirs who have participated in EDEN’s extensive Engagement programme, in a powerful finale where they share their uplifting message of hope side by side with Joyce on stage.
To ensure that the EDEN experience continues to grow outside of the concert hall, each audience member receives seeds to plant as Joyce asks: “In this time of upheaval, which seed will you plant today?”
EDEN has been commissioned by University Musical Society of the University of Michigan; the Harriman-Jewell Series, Kansas City; Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation; Cal Performances at University of California, Berkeley; Stanford Live; and UC Santa Barbara Arts & Lectures.
