Since meeting at the Antwerp Conservatoire, Katrijn Simoens and John Gevaert, now married to one another, have been an inseparable duo at the piano. Under the name Pianoduo Mephisto they have won numerous international prizes.
On the programme is the short and very catchy sonata that Francis Poulenc wrote in 1918, when he was mobilised as a 19-year-old at the very end of the First World War. Alongside this is the stunning Six morceaux by the young Sergei Rachmaninoff and the wonderfully defiant Ironien by Erwin Schulhoff.
