Relive Spiro online

The unique past edition of Flanders Festival Ghent opened with a unique production. Together with his colleague Zoë Ashe-Browne, Gabor Kapin - Ballet Vlaanderen’s Budapest-born ballet master - created  the first performance of his own in a unique diptych: Spiro. We’re delighted to bring back this gracious masterpiece via the Sound of Ghent-platform.

Spiro is Latin for ‘I breathe’. In each of Spiro’s two parts, two dancers and a musician breathe together in an intimate pas de trois. The young Dutch pianist Aidan Mikdad sparkles in Ravels bewitching Gaspard de la Nuit. And cellist Mikko Pablo engages in a dialogue about Bach with the dancers.

Gabor Kapin considers Spiro almost as a collective crede:

“‘Spiro’ is our motto. Breathing is what keeps us all alive. I conceive dance as a conversation, a dialogue between dancers and audience. I truly hope that spectators will get the feeling of participating, not only receiving. We are all people who breathe and each of us can create real, meaningful connections."

Spiro will be streamed on 25 March 2021 via soundofghent.be and will be available for 48 hours.
