Opening concert La Bomba Flamenca fills Saint Bavo's Cathedral with glorious polyphony
Yesterday, Gent Festival opened in Saint Bavo's Cathedral with La Bomba Flamenca by La TempĂȘte.
In the birth city of Emperor Charles V, Flemish and Spanish polyphony once again crossed paths with the Arab-Andalusian world: music from an age of trade, power, migration and exchange, brought back to life centuries later as something still in motion, and vividly alive.
The cathedral became a soundbox for a history that never sat neatly within borders.
