Unfortunately the coronavirus crisis still has us all firmly in its grip. That’s why we have no choice but to exchange experiencing live music for the digital realm. But… we’ve got you covered here! Along with four other Ghent culture houses we’ve launched the new online streaming platform ‘SOUND OF GHENT’. Enjoy the best live shows from your living room for a low price, with the best picture and sound quality, and in an entirely coronavirus-proof way.

Be sure to circle 20 November in your diary, because that’s when Flanders Festival Ghent is planning its very first live stream concert! We’ll be starting with the magnificent concert Für Jan Van Eyck, composed by Arvo Pärt and performed by Collegium Vocale Gent.

Collegium Vocale Gent, Philippe Herreweghe’s world-famous ensemble, celebrated its fiftieth birthday extensively during the last edition of Flanders Festival Ghent. On 22 September, they played a beautiful programme for choir and organ, with music by Monteverdi, Pärt, Bruckner and Messiaen. As the cherry on the birthday cake, they performed the world premiere of Für Jan Van Eyck, a brand-new work by Arvo Pärt commissioned by the City of Ghent as part of the themed year OMG Van Eyck was here.

This concert was recorded on 22 September 2020 at St Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent. The broadcast will be streamed online on 20 November via soundofghent.be and will be available for 48 hours.
