Yesterday, the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège filled Muziekcentrum De Bijloke's concert hall to capacity with music by two Russian giants. Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov drew out every nuance of Tchaikovsky's gloriously romantic Piano Concerto No. 1, while the orchestra and chief conductor Lionel Bringuier shone in Shostakovich's rarely performed Sixth Symphony. After a standing ovation, a rousing Slavonic Dance by Dvořák closed out the evening.
