Description
The ever-resourceful French master pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard rarely walks the well-trodden paths. His musical curiosity stretches from the eighteenth century to contemporary composers. Inspired by our festival theme, he has put together an ingenious programme in which the great cultures that surround our continent knock on the door and are received with open arms.
Thus Turkish culture infiltrates a Mozart sonata, Arabic influences resonate in the work of Albéniz more than a hundred years on, and Stravinsky is inspired by African American ragtime rhythms. This will be a highly adventurous recital that Aimard will explain himself. A tribute to the fruitful permeability of borders, and the constant two-way traffic that has underpinned cultural wealth and development for centuries.
