Astor Piazzolla and Eduardo Rovira are the two great pioneers of avant-garde tango. Both composers are occasionally portrayed as rivals, and the debate about which of the two was really the first innovator of tango has raged for decades. With this programme, SONICO brings to life a legendary moment that took place on March 8th 1966 at the tango club Gotan in Buenos Aires: it was the only night on which Piazzolla and Rovira were on stage together. The newspaper El Mundo wrote about “one of the most unforgettable chapters in Buenos Aires music history”. This concert is a tribute to two unique musical personalities who, each in their own way, gave new life to the traditional tango.
