HUNTER

HUNTER

Musical theatre match with Liesa Van der Aa

A basketball court. Eight voices. One team. HUNTER drives choir and game until the rules tilt and the match turns into a hunt for the heart.

Eight players meet on a basketball court. The referee blows the whistle. The game begins. Something bounces. A ball, or a beat. Are we watching a game, or entering a hunt for something more difficult to grasp?

In HUNTER, Flemish director, composer and multidisciplinary artist Liesa Van der Aa brings together the Berlin vocal ensemble B O D I E S and soprano Naomi Beeldens on a basketball court. Not as a metaphor, but as an architecture. The court functions as a score. Movements follow rules, roles are assigned, patterns repeat. What unfolds is a system of coordination, pressure and response.

The piece draws on Björk’s album Homogenic. Songs are broken down and reworked alongside new compositions and electronics. Voices loop, overlap and shift, moving between precision and friction. What seems playful at first gradually tightens into something more complex: a structure under strain.

HUNTER examines what happens when we operate within rules, and what emerges when those rules begin to falter.

A hunt, not for victory, but for the state of the heart.
