European Chamber Music Academy
Public Masterclasses at the Highest European Level
The youngest generation of European chamber musicians will gather for a week at KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent. Under the banner of the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), of which Gent Festival, together with KASK & Conservatorium, is a proud partner, they will participate in four days of intensive masterclasses led by some of Europe’s most renowned musicians. The masterclasses are open to the public. You can witness and enjoy the results during The ECMA Project on Friday 19.09.
From its very beginnings, ECMA has been collaborating with renowned festivals, whose responsible leaders saw the mutual benefit of connecting the up-and-coming generation of top-notch chamber ensembles with their established artists and formats. The collaboration with Flanders Festival Ghent is especially dear to me – the city is always amazing, the festival has a wonderful mix of most diverse high-level artists and acts, and the responsible persons have a deep understanding for what is necessary to make the combination with ECMA work. The members of the festival staff are friendly and professional, which makes it every time a real joy!
I am immensely grateful that 10 years ago, Veerle Simoens, just having started as director of the festival, took the initiative to start our cooperation. “In her former life” she had been an ECMA student herself, and by now she is our esteemed president of the ECMA association!
The cooperation was a success from the beginning, it always feels that ECMA really matters for the festival, and I am happy that by now the showcase concert featuring the young ECMA ensembles has become such a well-received part of it!
Let’s continue! Ad multos annos!
