Ensemble Explorations

Description

CANCELLED

After years of silence, Roel Dieltiens and Ensemble Explorations once again captivate audiences with their unsurpassed sound explorations. Mozart composed his horn quintet for the horn player Joseph Leutgeb, an important family friend in Salzburg—in fact Mozart wrote almost all his solo works for horn specifically for this virtuoso. In doing so, he is often remarkably humorous and even cheeky. Leutgeb must have been a good-humoured, amusing man, and the quintet testifies to his exceptional qualities on the horn. Accompanied by an extraordinary string quartet, on this occasion consisting of one violin, two violas and a cello, the horn excels in capricious and colourful expression. Mozart wrote the flute quartets on a commission from Ferdinand Dejean, a wealthy German who met Mozart in Mannheim. Dejean had worked in Batavia as a surgeon for the Dutch East India Company and was also a skilled amateur flautist. He ordered some works for his instrument from Mozart, including these beautiful quartets.
