Difficult times often give rise to profound art. I Solisti and Chorwerk Ruhr join forces and turn to some of the great composers and poets from a century ago for a meditation on the turbulent times in which we now live. War is closer than we would like, peace more fragile than we had thought. This concert is a reflection on the global unrest. The first part centres on war, with Kurt Weill’s and Bertolt Brecht’s confronting Berliner Requiem as the central work. Hope then blossoms anew, and the longing for peace resounds in several beautiful choral works, culminating in the heart-rending and breathtaking Friede auf Erden by Arnold Schönberg.
