The Ghent Festival has managed to snare an unusual and striking guest: the one and only Hollywood actor John Malkovich!
Malkovich, who you will know from film classics like Dangerous Liaisons and Being John Malkovich, has lost his heart to classical music. “I’m actually a musician deep down”, he says.
That got him started on creating a show where theatre and music merge effortlessly. And boy, does it work! In ‘The Music Critic’ Malkovich reflects humorously on classical music and takes endless inspiration from pronouncements and remarks that critics make about composers and musicians. All around the world artists are thoroughly critiqued; they always have been, and they always will be. Malkovich takes a peek into the mind of the music critic and turns it into a hilarious narrative cocktail. For this unique performance he is surrounded by a multitude of top musicians, including the comic duo Igudesman & Joo, with music by Mozart, Beethoven.
Another first in our country, and sure to set the Capitole on fire!
