A few years ago, the celebrated Daniel Barenboim asked Chris Maene, our national master in piano design, to create a ground-breaking piano. The great attraction of the new model was the technique of straight stringing, in contrast to the crossed stringing of modern-day Steinways.
In 2015 the piano that Barenboim commissioned was launched to great international acclaim. Meanwhile, Chris Maene had acquired a taste for the straight-strung piano and wanted to go one step further in the design. The result is the Chris Maene Concert Grand, which we will present at Ghent Festival.
The instrument combines the feeling, stability and power of a modern piano with the sound quality and colour of more historical instruments. From the outside the piano resembles a modern grand piano, but the inside is completely different.
Let yourself be enchanted in the Handelsbeurs Concert Hall in three concerts with the new Chris Maene Concert Grand!
